Computer not running

By webmaster - Posted on 29 July 2009

In this article we'll discuss some basics on what to do when the computer is not turning on.

One of the first things to check / trace would be everything that's going into an electrical outlet.

Check the outlet with any other appliance such as a lamp. If it's good, then check the surge protector if you're using one.

Afterwords check the computer cable. In most cases monitor and computer use identical cable, if that's the case (make sure it is identical cable) than swap those cables and see if computer turns on.

If nothing worked then the chances are it's the power supply. At this point if you're not comfortable at opening up the computer cases and taking out power supply for testing then its better to bring computer for repair you can always contact us for an advise (http://www.ewcsc.com/contact).

If you are comfortable then you can take out power supply and check if the voltage is coming out of the other side of the power supply (there are 5 and 12 volts pairs, you will have to refer to a schema based on your power supply such as AT, ATX, mini, macro, etc...) You will have close the circuit first in order to test the power supply without using motherboard. Once again you will have to refer to a manual or you can contact us for guidance.
