NASA Moon bombing - images and video from LCROSS in search of water!

By webmaster - Posted on 09 October 2009

On Friday October 9, 2009 - NASA executed LCROSS mission at 4:20AM PDT.

LCROSS - Lunar CRater Observing and Sensing Satellite - mission's objective was to confirm presence of water under the moon's surface at the South Pole.

They've selected a craters that's in permanent shadow with a temperatures reaching very close to an absolute zero.

One of the primary reasons for this project is to reduce costs of space exploration. Moon is already full of Oxygen from different mineral sources by having access to hydrogen and hopefully water right at the moon it'll be possible to create fuel right there on the Moon.

There are some concerns about bombing the moon and it's effects, but scientists are reassuring that the impact is very minimal and is similar to countless impacts from space by asteroids.

In addition some people raised the question in regards to water itself if found. Will the impact actually destroy that water and or have an effect on Moon's exosphere. The answer according to NASA to both questions in general is no it won't make much difference since lunar surface is being bombarded constantly by various debris and asteroids from space.

Very interesting events, but we'll have to wait for results and press released from NASA to confirm that the effects on the Moon were in fact minimal as scientists claim.

Regarless of the effects they actually bombed the Moon surface and it was not a natural event - at the very least how ethical was that?

We're looking forward to see some comments and your thoughts about this mission.
